A distant dreamer,
dreaming for hope from today.

basics!
NAME : Aurora Astraea Sinistra.
MEANING : AURORA; Means "dawn" in Latin. ASTRAEA; Latinized form of the Greek Αστραια (Astraia), derived from Greek αστηρ (aster) meaning "star". SINISTRA; Latin for "with the left hand."
NICKNAMES : Her friends call her Rora sometimes.
BIRTHDATE : February 5, 1961.
AGE : Seventeen.
OCCUPATION : Student.
RESIDENCE : Langton Matravers, England.
HOUSE : Ravenclaw.
WAND : Fir, 10", Springy, Unicorn hair.
PATRONUS : Dolphin.
ALIGNMENT : Neutral. Killing for any reason is wrong. Yes, even if to protect her right to be alive.

background!
BIRTHPLACE : Swanage, England.
FAMILY :
mother; Alexandra Sinistra née Argyris. Alexandra is a colorful and enigmatic woman and there's no denying that Aurora takes after her. She opens up her home to strangers who wish to know about their futures for a small fee. Extremely friendly, she greets her children's friends and most strangers with a hug and a kiss.
father; Darius Sinistra. A historian, Darius is quite possibly the only one who's willing to, or able to, put up with Alexandra's antics. An amazingly calm person, he always manages to be completely unfazed by what his family decides to do next. Former Hufflepuff.
sibling; An older brother, Dante, and a younger sister, Evelina. Dante, a Ravenclaw alum of 1971, is a healthy mixture of his parents. Like his mother, he has an unmistakable personality and penchant for being a little out of the ordinary. However, like his father, Dante can tone it down if the situation calls for it and manages to deal with most things with an easy-going smile. Currently, he's working at St. Mungos as a healer in the Artifact Accidents ward. Evelina is the very epitome of a teenage girl. A Slytherin fifth year, she finds everything her family does absolutely and utterly embarrassing and wants nothing more than to be "normal" and strives to be the quintessential most popular girl in school.

history!
Alexandra and Darius met when he was in Greece to do research. The two had an affair, something they both expected to end once Darius left Greece. What they hadn't expected, was that Alexandra would get pregnant. She showed signs of expecting after the two had become intimate, but she dismissed it, believing to be ill; but after a few months had passed, there was really no denying the fact that she was carrying a child. Alexandra was remarkably young; she was only eighteen, and Darius was twenty-three. Not knowing what else to do, the two married, and had Dante five months later. After Darius had finished his research in Greece, the newlyweds and their new son moved to Swanage, where Darius had a small home. There, Alexandra set up a small shop at home where muggles could come to her to get their fortune told. She wasn't a seer, not in the least; she was just a young mother, young girl, even, who really didn't have any other skill other than Divination and had trouble speaking the language. The last bit helped her business, actually - the muggles thought it was exotic, how she sometimes spoke in a foreign tongue.

Once Dante started walking, the couple decided that perhaps it was time to have a second child. They tried for quite some time, but failed. They were frustrated to say the least; Dante had been perceived so easily, but now they they were ready for a child, it wouldn't come. Then, Aurora happened. She happened about seven years too late, but she happened. She was a surprised to say the least, but not unwelcome - far from it, but just a surprise. Just when the couple had assumed they had all the children they needed, Evelina was born a year later. Another surprise, and also very welcomed by the family.

Aurora was born one crisp February morning to happy parents and a curious brother. Well, not as much curious as excited to have a baby sister. Nine years of being an only child had gotten rather boring. Aurora had an averagely happy childhood, which consisted of playing too close to the cliffs for her mother's comfort, getting into rows with her brother(who had discovered that she was more of an annoyance than anything), playing with the muggle children in her area, and learning Divination from her mother. Much to her mother's dismay, Aurora was rather horrendous at all aspects of Divination except Astrology. Actually, she was just good at noting the positions of the planets and constellations and how they'd changed. She spent her nights outside or by the window in a dark room, observing the subtle changes in the stars' positions each night and her mother would tell her the myths that corresponded with each constellation. The first "big girl" book Aurora ever owned (given to her by her parents on her seventh birthday) was an Astronomy book that taught how to chart celestial bodies and follow their movement. She carried it everywhere. She still takes it to school, though she doesn't carry it around with her because it's rather worn.

The only eventful thing to have happened in Aurora's childhood worth remembering, or so she feels, was the summer she was six, when the family moved to a much less populated village a few miles from where they currently lived: Langton Matravers. There was no real reason for it, other than the fact that Darius had found a cheaper, nicer home there, and Alexandra was welcome to a change.

The morning she turned nine years old, she was greeted with a piglet, which happened to be a gift from a neighbor. That morning, they also had bacon for breakfast. She was infuriated with her mother for cooking what could possibly be her new pet's brother; or possibly her new pet himself. This made her reflect on all the animals she had ever gotten to know, and that she had probably eaten some relative of theirs, and she decided not to eat any sort of animal that had died ever again; and very appropriately named her new pig Bacon.

Hogwarts was something entirely new, but also entirely exciting to Aurora. She was sorted into Ravenclaw, like her brother and father. She quickly became known as "Oh, that girl" said in a not exactly disdainful manner, but in a tone of voice that didn't suggest anything good. It was most likely her intellectual snobbery and the long speech she gave the next morning about how eating bacon was basically murder and bringing out the photos of Bacon.

When it came to academics, she generally excelled in the things that didn't require a lot of wandwork. She was better at studying the facts and it frustrated her when she knew everything she was supposed to do, but couldn't succeed in turning the bird into a goblet. Though what she was best at by far, was Astronomy. The only taste of Astronomy she'd gotten was that book she'd had since she was seven and the Astrology her mother had taught her, so she was excited to be able to further her knowledge in the field. Her third year, she naturally chose Divination as one of her electives, but after getting really horrendous marks, she dropped it for her fourth year. Her mother was upset, of course, but there was really no use in pushing the girl in a direction she would fail in. If she had to describe her time at Hogwarts until her sixth year she would think for a bit, then shrug and say "uneventful" and it really is true.

personality!
She's fiercely against objectifying of any sort. Whether it's the objectifying of women or men or animals(she insists that this does happen), she's against it. What's the use of having an advanced mental capacity, by the way, this does NOT mean humans have any sort of right to abuse animals in any fashion, when all you're going to do is toss it aside and reduce each other to the status of objects is really rather degrading to the human race. She doesn't bring it up often, though, in fear of sounding preachy. Most likely, you'll hear an annual recitation of the speech when something extreme occurs, with slight changes to make it relate to the subject at hand, and all other times, she will give a Look that blatantly shows that she disapproves. It's not that she's a feminist; she's a living creatures-ist.

Though she has a firm belief of what she believes to be right, she's willing to accept everyone just as they are. She's entitled to her own beliefs, isn't she? Why can't everyone else be? Sure, so goes off about objectifying every so often, but she doesn't really expect people to change who they are because of it. But she does like to loudly voice her opinion and guilt-trip you to get a sort of false sense of superiority.

She has a very light and breezy way about her, which makes her seem very pleasant and rather approachable if you don't know her. But once you do, she'll start going off on one of her ideas every once in a while and can really be rather annoying. Generally, though, she has an airy sort of personality and is a bit quirky, though whether in a good or bad way is completely for you to decide on your own.

STRENGTHS :
advice; She can remove herself from nearly any situation, unless she, herself, is involved, and will tell you the logical, reasonable thing to do from an objective standpoint. Of course, this isn't always what the other person wants to hear, but she thinks it's important that they know.

WEAKNESSES :
sensitive; Though she pretends that what other people say don't get to her, painful words are still painful and she still has feelings. She knows she's a bit different in her opinions and the way she acts, but it'd be nice if they didn't all talk about it. But she's not willing to change herself because other people think she's stuck up.
bottles things up; When she gets upset, she ignores that she's upset, and she tries to figure out why and how she got to that point. It's really not good for her, because she tends to mull things over a bit too much, and because she's not completely focused and objective, she'll miss how she got there and will grow frustrated and really just make matters worse. All she needs to do is just sit, cry, and let it all out, but she doesn't really know how.

appearance!
Aurora is what some people would call "pretty." But then again, she's also what some people would call "ugly" or "average," so there's really no definite way to determine whether she's actually pretty or not. How does one measure prettiness, anyway? It's all rather ridiculous to Aurora, and she has better things to worry about than whether or not someone thinks she's pretty. She argues that it's much too subjective to be a proper description, and that we really just ought to stick with the facts. Very well, then. She has stringy light-brown hair, grey eyes, high cheekbones, freckles, and a slender body with very little trace of a curve. Her mother, a rather curvacious woman, looks at Aurora's body and sighs and asks the gods why they cursed her daughter with such a figure. Aurora sees it as a blessing, herself. She wouldn't want boys looking at her that way; it'd make it harder for her to give speeches about objectifying living creatures. Besides, it's easier to crawl into small places without breasts or hips.

She sometimes gives off an odd odor, and when it's mentioned, she'll give an absent-minded smile and say "Oh, I've been busy reviewing, so I haven't had a chance to shower." The smell usually gets noticable after three days of not showering, and she never goes longer than three days without. She just starts to feel disgusting and the build-up in her hair is much too oily to handle. Normally, though, she showers on a daily basis. It's just that when she's particularly busy, she just can't find the time for it and eventually forgets about it. She'll usually remember when she runs her hand through her hair and finds it clumpier than usual.
